Eleni Psillakis is a health educator, presenter and columnist with over 30 years experience in education and the fitness industry. In 2016 she was awarded ‘Filex 2016 Inspiration Award Winner’ for her efforts in raising awareness of eating disorders as serious mental illnesses.
Eleni herself has overcome anorexia and clinical depression and is passionate about bringing an understanding of the connection between addictive behaviours and the underlying thought patterns. Eleni is currently collaborating with Dr Sarah Maguire, from Inside Out Institute for Eating and Dieting Disorders to bring education to the fitness industry. To date she has reviewed their guidelines on Managing and Identifying Clients with Eating Disorders in the Fitness Industry and has conducted a survey of the knowledge the fitness industry in Australia has about identifying clients who may be suffering and their understanding of best practice for early intervention and assisting improvement of health. She has written a research paper on the results, which will be available shortly.
Eleni holds a Bachelor in PDHPE, is also a member of Australians for Mental Health and is an accredited Mental Health First Aid Instructor with Mental Health First Aid Australia.
